JASE Creative Team Hard at Work for Dragas
Coffee, grapes, crackers, and cheese! Four vital elements to keeping the creative juices flowing.
This photo was taken during a skull session prepping to present new creative branding concepts to The Dragas Companies, a Virginia Beach builder, which specialize in building and the sale of new condominium communities.

What do you think Walt is saying to Sue? Something along the lines of “Don’t you like my cheese?”

Here are a few photos from the visit to Nathan’s Lynnhaven Pawn Shop in Virginia Beach.

IE6 past its expiration date, says Microsoft

Microsoft is urging users to dump the aged Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) with a campaign that claims the browser is past its expiration date.
The latest push to convince users to quit IE6 equated the browser to a nine-year-old carton of milk. IE6 debuted in August 2001.
“You wouldn’t drink 9-year-old milk,” reads a milk carton pictured on a page hosted by Microsoft’s Australian division . “So why use a 9-year-old browser?”
The campaign, which was first reported by Australian blogger Long Zheng, touts IE8 as the replacement for IE6, and cites company-funded research that claimed IE8’s malware-blocking tools caught 85% of the malicious sites the browser faces. Microsoft has sponsored several such studies , all conducted by NSS Labs.
IE6 has had its share of security problems. Late last year, for example, hackers used a vulnerability in the browser to steal confidential information from Google and scores of other major technology companies.
It’s also gotten the cold shoulder from several prominent Web sites and services. Google’s Gmail and YouTube, Facebook and Digg have all announced that they will no longer support IE6. Last March, a Denver design firm hosted a mock funeral for the browser; Microsoft sent a floral arrangement with a card reading, “Thanks for the good times.”
Microsoft has been begging users to leave IE6 for almost a year. Last August, the company’s general manager for Internet Explorer noted that, “Friends don’t let friends use IE6″ as she made her plea to users.
Whether users listened or because millions have moved to Windows 7 , which includes IE8, the percentage of people running IE6 has plummeted since August 2009. According to data from Web metrics company NetApplications, IE6 has fallen from a usage share of 25.3% to 17.6% in the last nine months, a drop of nearly eight percentage points, representing a decline of 30%.
However, Microsoft’s newest pitch is misleading, since IE6 true expiration date is April 8, 2014, when it finally retires the almost-as-old Windows XP . After that date, Microsoft will not release security updates for IE6 or Windows XP.
People still using IE6 must upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to continue to receive patches after July 13, 2010.
IE8 will be Microsoft’s final browser for Windows XP customers, as the company will not support XP with IE9, the next-generation browser that is in the early stages of development.
Making Social Media a True Leads Channel for Your Business
You’ve heard the local social media “guru” talking about setting up your Facebook page. And you’ve heard the neighbor’s kid talk about kickin’ it on Twitter and Foursquare. You understand there are millions of people in social communities these days but one question still lingers in the back of your mind - What can social media do for my business?
There is a very simple answer to that question - lead generation! Quality lead generation, built on consumers or potential clients wanting more and more of your content.
Social communities have nearly taken over as the leading source of traffic to our JASE website. Our social media friends are visiting our blog in droves looking for additional information on branding, lead generation, inbound marketing, ebusiness solutions, creative web design, and tech support.
Social media marketing can help your business generate more, quality leads. Share links to great content on your blog. Share links to webinars or videos on your website. Instead of sending potential customers to facebook.com or twitter.com or linkedin.com, send them to your website where you control 100% of the content, can guide them through the pages on your site to a call-to-action webform, and can completely control your brand that they will experience.
A simple marketing takeaway is, use social media as a net to lead the traffic (to your website) that would have otherwise known nothing about you.

What is Lean-Forward Advertising Medium?
A good internet video, says Kelsey Group (www.kelseygroup.com) analyst Michael Boland, can be more powerful than traditional advertising because viewers are sitting at their computers while viewing instead of on their couches.
Watch a TV ad, and you’re likely to do no more than make a mental note of the product. Watch an ad on YouTube, and you can immediately search the company’s website. “It’s that lean-forward medium,” Boland says.
Is this inbound marketing?
Yes, of course it is! Imagine - Watch a viral video on YouTube. Click a link in the video’s description. Enter a landing page on the organization’s website. Capture the viewer through a strategically placed call-to-action widget. Inbound marketing works! Let’s talk.

Agency’s Pitch requires the Right Brain and Left Brain
Recently we attended a pre-proposal meeting recently that our agency was invited to. Without divulging too many details, this city commission asked several regional advertising agencies, marketing agencies, new media agencies and communications firms to participate in their RFP process. JASE was selected to be a part of this prestigious process.
As I quite often do, I exited the meeting wanting to call every person on our team and begin brainstorming ideas instantly. As I ran through this list of people in my head I noticed the types of folks I wanted to talk to - creatives, operational, techies, thinkers, and the list goes on.
In order to keep your agency in the running during the bidding process of a project, both right-brain folks and left-brain folks are equally important and must work together. One side out maneuvering the other would be catastrophic. What do I mean?
Left Brain
Your initial contact (in our case, the written Answer to the RFP) with the potential client is all about convincing them that you belong on their pitch process. They need to see:
- Your team’s professionalism and confidence in your work.
- How your team thinks logically, strategically and on-task.
- The quality of your team’s credentials.
- Examples of successful campaigns.
- The creativity your team can demonstrate.
Right Brain
Once your pitch has made it through the cut process, you must then address the more emotional senses and concerns that will differentiate you from the next agency. They need to see:
- The passion your team has for their project.
- The overwhelming innovation your team’s brainstorming processes have produced.
- Your team’s creative concepts have aligned with their strategic goals.
- The working chemistry your team can share with the client.
We hope to have a very successful bid process on this particular RFP. And hopefully these points can help you. Good luck in your agency’s next pitch.
